Jacqueline D. Kloss, Ph.D., Psychologist

Jacqueline Kloss, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, with a doctorate in clinical psychology from Binghamton University.  She completed her clinical internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) and post-doctoral training in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Kloss was formerly the Director of the Insomnia Program at the Drexel Sleep Center in the Drexel College of Medicine.

Dr. Kloss’s primary specialty at Bryn Mawr Psychological Associates is in treating adults and older adolescents experiencing problems with their sleep.  She has extensive experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), as well as teaching effective strategies for the management of other common sleep problems. This includes conditions such as delayed sleep phase disorder, sleep disordered breathing (adhering to CPAP), and sleep deprivation.

Dr. Kloss welcomes referrals for individuals suffering from sleep problems. People who are actively working with another therapist are able to request coordination of care between their current therapist and Dr. Kloss if they need a higher degree of treatment focus on their sleep issues.  Treatment for the sleep problems is generally short-term so people typically either continue with their current therapist at the same time or pause their current therapy and then return to seeing their referring therapist once their sleep has normalized.

Dr. Kloss is dedicated to helping others reach their optimal sleep health. She believes that sleep is pivotal to health, and is as necessary as diet and exercise are to one’s well-being. Her goals are to: a) educate individuals about the underlying causes, correlates, and consequences of their sleep problems; and b) facilitate the behavioral, cognitive, social, and/or environmental changes that are conducive to healthy and restorative sleep.  She follows evidence-based practices and seeks to provide the tools and teach the techniques that will enable individuals to overcome their sleep problems. She encourages patients to think of her as their “sleep coach” – encouraging and supporting, while educating and challenging.

Dr. Kloss worked most of her career as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Drexel University.  She devoted 17 years there as a mentor, educator, researcher, and clinician in the area of health psychology, in general, and behavioral sleep medicine, in specific. She co-edited two books, Insomnia Principles and Management and Women’s Health Psychology, contributed seven chapters, published over 25 peer-reviewed articles, and delivered over 75 presentations in the area of behavioral medicine.  It was during that time when Dr. Kloss served as Director of the Insomnia Program at the Drexel Sleep Center.

Dr. Kloss currently holds an Adjunct Assistant Professor position at the University of Pennsylvania, Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program, Department of Psychiatry, where she is Co-PI on an R21 Natural History of Sleep Disturbance in Childbearing Women: A Feasibility Study with Dr. Michael Perlis, sponsored through NIH. She seeks to identify the degree to which sleep is associated with, and/or confers risk and protection to, reproductive, maternal, and infant health. She is also an Instructor for the Penn Behavioral Sleep Medicine Mini-Fellowship program.

She is a member of the following organizations: Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine;
Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies; American Academy of Sleep Medicine; American Psychological Association
